Jewellery CareCaring For your Jewellery
Caring for your jewellery is vital if you want to keep it looking its best.
General Tips
Try not to wear your jewellery when you are gardening or doing housework as it is not designed for heavy duty tasks like these.
Avoid getting perfume or hairspray on metals or soft gemstones because they can become discoloured.
Keep your jewellery away from chemicals of all kinds & don't wear it in the swimming pool.
Storing Jewellery
If you don't want your jewellery to tarnish store it in resealable plastic bags or in a box with anti tarnish paper.
Store jewellery away from sunlight as sometimes this can cause some stones to fade in colour.
Cleaning Copper Jewellery
Over time copper will tarnish as its exposed to air. The oxidation creates a beautiful brown patina. However if you prefer your copper bright and shiny you should store your jewellery in resealable bags .
To clean copper jewellery you can use commercial cleaners, tomato ketchup, Worcester source, or water with lemon juice and salt. However lemon juice shouldn't be used if the pieces have soft gemstones such as fluorite or pearls. |
